Starting
as a cover band in 1991, Sudden Urge has tasted the fruits of
many, and practically all styles of music, and shared the stage
with such acts as: 'Kim Mitchell', 'Ani DiFranco', 'Firehouse',
'The Marshall Tucker Band, 'Rick Derringer', 'Danzig', 'Sting',
'The Crash Test Dummies', 'Coco Montoya',
And Canadian 'Juno' Award Winner, 'Wide Mouth Mason'.
The band threw it's hat into the original music
arena in October of 2000, with the release of their first CD
entitled, 'Channel Surfer'. To
do this, they enlisted the musical talents of former 'Rick James'
Percussionist / Turned Hip - Hop Producer, 'Rick Joyner', And 'Goo
Goo Dolls' Keyboardist,
'Dave Schulz'.
Having
been chosen as 'Buffalo's Top Rock Band',
two years consecutively, and having amassed a colorful array of
individual awards and nominations, 'Sudden Urge' has earned the
respect of thousands of club-goers and music fans across the
country.
Since 1998, the band has enjoyed critical
acclaim, by starring as 'Donny Dulce and Fusion', the
"offbeat" Rock N' Roll Wedding Band in 'Tony N' Tina's
Wedding' (the longest running comedy in Off-Broadway history).
It has afforded them the chance to tour with the show, and
perform in large venues, as far south as Fort Meyers, Florida,
and as far west as Salt Lake City, Utah. Additionally,
Sudden Urge has also spent the last 3 years starring as the
Hilarious "Pillingham Minstrel Singers", in Actors
Anonymous Theatre Company's Original Musical/Comedy productions
of; "The King & Queen's Royal Feast!" (see
pics)
The
band has also written and recorded several songs, in support of
its hometown big league sports teams (The Buffalo Bills, and
Buffalo Sabres), and received airplay on many
Western New York radio and television stations, and regular
rotation on the
East
Coast Trax Radio Network
affiliates.
The group's Hockey song, 'Go Sabres'
has become a wildly popular fan favorite, and with CD sales of
the song remaining healthy in several major Western New York
music outlets throughout the last 3 seasons, the band has
donated ALL sales profits to The 'Carly's Club' Foundation of
Roswell Park, benefiting children's cancer research.

In A big break at home in
Buffalo came in July of 2001, when Sudden Urge played to over 15,000+
and opened the Buffalo leg of the 'Jim Rome World Tour' at Dunn Tire Baseball Stadium. They performed a vast mixture of cover and original music off of their October 2000 CD release, 'Channel Surfer'.... Soon after this performance, the band secured a coveted spot to attend the world famous 'North By North East Music Conference', in Toronto. While in Toronto, Sudden Urge had the good fortune of conferencing with such international artists as David Usher, Shawn Mullens, Francine Chaloult (Celine Dion's Publicist), and other internationally successful artists and industry insiders. Much was said of Sudden Urge's music, and their Debut CD (Channel Surfer) met with positive reviews.
In
June of 2008, Sudden Urge enjoyed the honorable distinction of
being hand picked to perform at the ‘Mayor’s Reception’,
which immediately followed the Unveiling Ceremony of the Matt
Urban memorial monument in Downtown Buffalo, NY. This
event paid tribute to Buffalo’s own Matt Urban, who (to date)
is the most decorated war hero in American History! The band’s
performance was televised, and enjoyed by thousands of Western
New York television viewers.
NOTE: Sudden Urge is currently playing Nightclubs, Corporate Shows, Theatrical Shows, and Private Parties. Additionally, they're continually writing & recording original songs for their upcoming
sophomore CD release.
